Hi I have a Craftsman witha Briggs Platinum 23hp 724cc motor I would like to race. I think this puts me in open tractor. Could someone please confirm that and perhaps give me your comments. Thanks learning a lot here Bill

hi, I am looking at an older copy of the rules and from what I can see your engine is too big for any class. open class is 655 ohv and 721 L head. I am assuming your engine is an ohv. cheers!

Hi Thanks for the reply. further on down the rules for open tractor It says - vertical or horizontal crankshaft engines - 4 cycle lawn equipment engines - internal modifications OPEN - all engines Since internal mods are sanctioned. It would not be a far jump to bore an engine out to 724 cc. Please understand an forgive me if my questions seem strange. I am very new to all this having built custom motorcycles for most of my life. I am just trying to learn my way around. Thanks Bill

I think this is probably a better question for the tech stewards to mull over. I am curious to see what thier ruling (for lack of a better word) is.

That's a good idea. It seems to me that any lawn tractor. that is stock right out of the factory should fit somewhere.

Hi heres the engine maximums for open tractor Formula Tractor -- FT OPEN
IF THE RULES DON'T SAY YOU CAN CHANGE, ALTER, OR MODIFY SOMETHING FOR YOUR CLASS THEN IT'S NOT ALLOWED Engine Maximums: OHV Max 655 CC Most commonly used: - OHV Vanguard V-Twin Max. 38 C.I. or 622 CC - OHV Intek V-Twin Max. 40 C.I. or 655 CC - L-Head Twin (opposed) Max. 44 C.I. or 721 CC - OHV Single Max. 33 C.I. or 540CC As you can see the maximum cc would be 721cc so you could not bore it out to 724cc. Even though the name open is the class there is still restrictions to the limits of open. We look forward to questions such as this it shows that someone is reading the rules. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask and keep on building .
