Sam, can you please clarify for me. I have my high school class working on a stock mod build using an old husky pup miniature tractor. I have sourced a 13 hp flathead. Just a few final concerns.
Do I have to use the original transaxle, or can I use any shiftable transaxle so long as it is mounted in such a way that it lines up with the location of the original one? A later model transaxle would be a little wider and a little lighter, easy to get replacement parts for too.
Secondly, do I have to use the original rear rims (about 4" wide) or can I use a standard 7" wide 8" diameter rim with a lower profile tire. The tractor originally came with a very narrow tire that would not be safe or desirable for racing.
Thanks for your time and see you at Norwood.
I have read and reread the rules and I know if it's not stated you can do it, but it only takes a minute to double check. Thanks.

The transaxle swap would be fine as long as it goes back in the original oem position. The rims need to be 8inches rearand up front 6 inches up so the change will be to our rules. Take care see you at the races

hi hab. Just checkin out your post and wondering if your engine (13 hp flathead) might b to big for the stock mod class? I think that the max is 420cc (25ci) which converts to approximatly 11 hp I believe.

It is a 28ci flathead with what is essentially a 13 hp sticker. It may be getting a hair extra fuel through the carb, but the displacement is still the sme as 10/11/12 hp rated engine. They still do the same thing with today's engines, same displacement, different stickers. Often with no physical difference at all in the motor, other than the label. I love the 20+hp John deeres at Home Depot - those engines are tiny. No way it's even close to 20hp and wouldn't hold a candle to a 12.5 vtwin vanguard from the early 90's. Cheers man.

Happyhab flyingw is correct in his statement the 13hp is a 28ci with 460cc so you will need to find another engine for that build. The 11hp= 25 C.I. OR 420 CC. If you also look at the two engines for a comparision you will see the vast difference in carbs as well. I do not know why it never clicked in the day I replied to your post somehow I missed the start of the sentence LOL sorry. Thanks Flyingw for bringing that to my attention. Good luck with your build.

Sorry guys, you are right.
I was ranting about the 28 ci block that is produced with many different 'stickers' all the while internals being the same, other than carburation depending on the original application. Now I have to go back to the shelf and see if I actually have a 25 ci on hand....hope so. Too many irons in the fire...story of my life!
Does anyone know what the last year of production would have been for that size engine? Thinking this may be a difficult one to track down...
